Perilla seed is the dry mature fruit of Perilla frutescens, a plant of Labiatae.

Clinical names include Perilla frutescens, fried Perilla frutescens, honey fried Perilla frutescens, Perilla frutescens cream.

Spicy, warm sex, belong to the lung meridian. The effect is to reduce Qi and phlegm, relieve cough and asthma, and moisten intestines. Perilla seed contains 17% protein, 51.7% oil, 56.8% unsaturated fatty acid and linolenic acid, 17.6% linoleic acid.

The effective component of perilla seed oil, alpha-linolenic acid, has very strong reducibility. It can be oxidized by high temperature, oxygen in the air, ultraviolet rays and some heavy metal ions. Supercritical extraction of perilla seed oil requires a lower temperature, which avoids the destruction of the effective components under the sealed condition of CO2. Therefore, the quality and yield of the product are higher than those of traditional methods, and it is more suitable for industrial application.

Through unremitting efforts, the supercritical extraction technology has been combined with other technologies to extract perilla seed oil. The quality of perilla seed oil is high, and the oil yield is far higher than the current industrialization standards.
